Discussing urban NbS at the 19th Global Forum on Human Settlements

On 24th October 2024, the 19th Global Forum on Human Settlements (GFHS) took place at the United Nations Headquarter in New York City.

IUCN, as one of the co-organisers of the event, had the opportunity to organise a parallel session on Nature-based solutions for urban resilience and sustainability, moderated by Charles Karangwa, Head of IUCN Nature-based Solutions Management Hub. The panel invited different experts from the urban NbS field, such as:

  • Ms. Loan Diep Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Urban Nature-based Solutions, The New School
  • Ms Kritika Kharbanda, Head of Sustainability, Henning Larsen
  • Mr. Billy Grayson, Chief Initiatives Officer, The Urban Land Institute (ULI)
  • Prof. Hitesh Mehta, President, HM Design
  • Ms. Lauren Alger, Director of Sustainable Design, STV Incorporated

Finally, Dr. Sofie Sandstrom Jaffe Permanent Observer of IUCN to the United Nations, provided the closing remarks and wrapped the session.
