The Conference of the Parties is the governing body of the Convention on Biological Diversity. Its purpose is to advance the implementation of the Convention through decision making at periodic meetings. Since 1992, the Conference of the Parties has held 14 ordinary meetings, usually held every two years.
The Fifteenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP15) is being held in Kunming, China and Montreal, Canada, in two phases. The first phase took place virtually, from 11 to 15 October 2021. The second and final phase will be an in-person meeting in Montreal, Canada, from 5 to 17 December 2022.
COP15 will convene governments to agree to a new set of goals for nature over the next decade – namely, the post-2020 global biodiversity framework. The framework sets out an ambitious plan to transform society and realise the 2050 vision of living in harmony with nature.
