IUCN Secretariat
Iain Stewart joined IUCN in 2022 and is the Director of Membership and Commissions Support. This role sees Iain working closely with IUCN Headquarters and Regional Offices to develop and implement a strategy to grow and retain IUCN’s membership base, as well as providing and developing the support from the Secretariat for the Commissions.
Iain has over twenty years’ experience in communicating science-based solutions in areas ranging from biodiversity to climate change to ecosystem management. This includes growing the membership base of the international environmental research organization, IIASA (International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis) over the six years from 2016 to 2022.
Prior to developing all membership matters for IIASA, Iain ran the Institute’s Communications and Publications departments. And before this, he ran the press office of the UK’s Economic and Social Research Council, and was a journalist (UK’s Sunday Times and Business 2.0 magazine). He has a Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology and Sociology and the UK’s Chartered Institute of Public Relations’ postgraduate qualification in public relations.
