Thomas Brooks

As IUCN’s Chief Scientist, Thomas Brooks’ responsibilities include scientific support to knowledge product delivery (eg IUCN Red List, Protected Planet), maintaining IUCN interaction with peer scientific institutions, and strengthening IUCN’s culture of science. He holds degrees in Geography (BA Hons) from Cambridge University and in Ecology & Evolutionary Biology (PhD) from the University of Tennessee, and has previously worked for The Nature Conservancy, Conservation International, and NatureServe. His background is in threatened species conservation (especially of birds) and in biodiversity hotspots (he has extensive field experience in tropical forests of Asia, South America, and Africa). He has authored 244 publications.
